01Overview
Bringmilets customers pay for eligible food with SNAP benefits using an EBT card. SNAP (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) is administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service ("USDA FNS"). This policy explains where EBT is accepted, what it can pay for, how payment and refunds work, and how we protect your benefits.
This policy forms part of our Terms of Service. Where it addresses EBT specifically, it applies in addition to our Refund and Cancellation Policy and Privacy Policy.
02Where EBT Is Accepted
EBT is accepted only at stores that hold their own active SNAP retailer authorization from USDA FNS and have enabled EBT on Bringmi, and only where Bringmi has enabled EBT for your delivery area. Stores that accept EBT are labeled in the app.
Bringmi builds and operates the EBT payment technology. Each store remains responsible for its own SNAP authorization and for correctly identifying which of its products are SNAP-eligible.
03What EBT Can Pay For
SNAP benefits can be used only for SNAP-eligible food — generally, food and food products intended for preparation and consumption at home. Eligible items are marked in the app.
SNAP benefits cannot be used for:
- Alcoholic beverages and tobacco products
- Vitamins, medicines, and supplements (any product with a Supplement Facts label)
- Hot foods, or food sold hot at the time of your order
- Pet food, household supplies, personal care products, and other non-food items
- Delivery fees, platform fees, small order fees, or any other Bringmi fee
- Driver tips
Eligibility is determined per item under federal rules and any applicable state restrictions. Bringmi does not participate in the Restaurant Meals Program, and SNAP cannot be used for restaurant meals on Bringmi. Cash benefits (such as TANF) are not accepted — only SNAP food benefits.
04Paying With EBT at Checkout
Split payment
Because fees, tips, and non-eligible items can never be paid with SNAP, every EBT order also requires a second payment method, such as a debit or credit card. At checkout the SNAP-eligible portion of your order is charged to your EBT card and everything else is charged to your other payment method.
You choose how much SNAP to use
At checkout we check your current SNAP balance and show you the eligible total. You decide how much of your balance to apply, up to the lower of your eligible total and your available balance. We suggest the full eligible amount, but you can lower it — including to $0. Any eligible amount you choose not to pay with EBT is charged to your other payment method.
Amounts shown in your cart are estimates
The EBT split shown in your cart is an estimate. The final amount is confirmed at checkout using your live balance and each item's eligibility. If you change your cart after choosing an amount, the split is recalculated and shown to you again before you place the order.
Your EBT card and PIN
- You may link one EBT card to your Bringmi account. EBT is not available for guest checkout.
- You enter your PIN for every EBT payment. Your PIN is encrypted when entered and is never stored by Bringmi.
- Bringmi does not store your full EBT card number. EBT transactions are processed by a USDA FNS-approved third-party processor.
- Never share your EBT PIN with anyone, including Bringmi staff, stores, or drivers. We will never ask for it outside the secure checkout screen.
05Equal Treatment
Federal rules require that SNAP customers be treated the same as every other customer. On Bringmi:
- Prices, fees, and promotions are the same whether or not you pay with EBT.
- Discounts are applied to your order before the EBT and non-EBT portions are split, so they reduce both proportionally.
- Stores and drivers are not told which payment method you used.
06Sales Tax
Under federal law, the portion of an item paid for with SNAP benefits is not subject to sales tax. Any portion of an item paid for with another payment method is taxed according to the normal rules for that item. Massachusetts already exempts most grocery food from sales tax, so for most orders this has no effect on your total. Your receipt shows the EBT and non-EBT amounts separately.
07Refunds and Cancellations on EBT Orders
Cancellations and refunds on EBT orders follow the same rules as any other order under our Refund and Cancellation Policy, with one difference in where the money goes:
- SNAP money goes back to SNAP. Any refund of an amount paid with EBT is returned to the same EBT card. It is never paid out as cash, returned to a bank card, or issued as Bringmi account credit — even where the Refund and Cancellation Policy would otherwise give credit.
- The non-EBT portion of the refund is handled exactly as the Refund and Cancellation Policy describes.
- When only some items are refunded, the EBT portion is calculated from the amount actually paid with EBT for those specific items.
- EBT refunds can take longer to appear than card refunds. If an EBT refund has not appeared on your balance after a few business days, contact us at support@bringmi.com.
If a store substitutes an item, the amount charged to your EBT card does not change. If an item was incorrectly marked as SNAP-eligible, the EBT amount paid for that item is refunded to your EBT card.
08Misuse and Fraud
Selling, trading, or exchanging SNAP benefits for cash or for anything other than eligible food is a federal offense. Bringmi monitors EBT activity for misuse, cooperates with USDA FNS and law enforcement, and may suspend accounts or stores involved in suspected SNAP fraud.
If you suspect SNAP fraud on Bringmi, tell us at support@bringmi.com. You can also report it directly to the USDA Office of Inspector General.
09Lost or Stolen EBT Cards
If your EBT card is lost or stolen, or you believe someone knows your PIN, contact the customer service number on the back of your EBT card or your state SNAP agency (in Massachusetts, the Department of Transitional Assistance) right away, then remove the card from your Bringmi account. Bringmi cannot replace EBT cards or restore stolen benefits.
10Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in USDA FNS rules, state requirements, or how EBT works on Bringmi. When we make material changes, we will notify you by push notification, email, or in-app notice at least 14 days before they take effect, unless a change is required sooner by law.
